Pre-season results may not matter much but Paul Dickov is determined for Doncaster Rovers to end their friendly campaign unbeaten on home soil – even with Premier League Sunderland in town tonight.

Rovers won just seven games on home soil last season, a statistic Dickov is keen on vastly improving upon during the new term.

Keen to set the tone in the warm-up matches, the Rovers boss is pleased with the two draws against Nottingham Forest and Middlesbrough so far.

And he wants to continue the promising run against Dick Advocaat’s Black Cats at the Keepmoat tonight.

“I want to see a progression throughout the pre-season more than anything else,” Dickov said.

“First and foremost we don’t want to get beat. We want to win the game but if we can’t we must make sure we don’t lose.

“It’s going to be a big test for us, particularly with the teams we’re playing against.

“We’ve done well in doing that in two tough tests but I still want to see progression.

“I don’t want to tempt fate but I don’t want to get beat against these top teams at home.”

Rovers conclude their pre-season programme against Wolverhampton Wanderers at the Keepmoat on Saturday.
