Paul Dickov says Rovers must surge out of the blocks if they are to have success in Saturday’s derby with Barnsley at the Keepmoat.

Dickov believes his side have found the blueprint for improving their home record and it begins with starting games fast and strong.

“We want to make sure we continue the last two home performances which have been really good,” Dickov said.

“We’ve had some good performances at home without getting the results.

“But in the last two games, we’ve started them really well, got on the front foot, really put pressure on the opposition and been relentless with it.

“It’s definitely something we want to take into the game as well, especially with it being a derby game.

“It’ll be a great atmosphere and we want to make sure we don’t disappoint.”

Dickov believes there are plenty of similarities between Rovers and tomorrow’s visitors Barnsley.

And he says both he and Reds boss Danny Wilson are desperate for some consistency.

He said: “It’s a very similar situation with both clubs being in a transitional period.

“And if you look over the course of the first half od the season, results-wise it’s been similar as well with some very good results followed by some poor ones.

“Danny, like myself, will be looking to get a bit of consistency which we feel we’ve done in the league recently.

“Barnsley are a good team and they’ve made some good signings recently that will strengthen them.

“Danny has got players who will score goals.

“The youth they have brings them energy and enthusiasm.

“They’ve picked up points recently and got a good results against Yeovil, albeit a Yeovil side with ten men.”

Dickov says the next few weeks for his side will provide a major indication of where their fortunes may lie come the end of the season.

He wants to get the busy period off to the best possible start by stretching the four match unbeaten run in League One.

He said: “We know it’s going to be a tough game but it’s one we want to win.

“We’ve got a lot of games coming up where we feel if we can get the right results, we can start looking up the table.”

Nathan Tyson and Harry Forrester should both be fit to face Barnsley despite picking up ankle knocks in the FA Cup replay at Bristol City.
