Doncaster RLFC: Attitude key for Challenge Cup banana skin, says skipper Kyle Kesik

Dons skipper Kyle Kesik is one man who will not be treating Sunday's Challenge Cup third round tie at West Hull as a foregone conclusion.

“It doesn’t matter who you play, if you don’t go into the game with the right attitude you can get beat,” said the hooker.

“I was in the team which lost at home to amateurs Siddal and it’s not a feeling that I want to experience again.

“I think that there are one or two ex-Doncaster players over there and they’ll be up for the game, as will any of their players hoping to be signed by a league club because they will see it as their shop window.

“I’m definitely expecting them to throw everything at us. Hopefully we can go there and do a professional job on them.

“We know we aren’t going to win the competition but it would be nice to win a couple of games and hopefully draw a big club which would help the club financially and also prove a good experience for our younger players. Even if you get beaten heavily, as was the case a couple of years ago at Warrington, you always learn something playing against the top players.”

He added: “We also want to do well in the iPro Cup after knocking out the holders and I don’t see why we can’t win it.

“We’re still gelling as a team whereas the bulk of the North Wales team was the same which put 40 points past us in the Challenge Cup last season, so it was a good result.”

The Dons have been drawn at home to London Skolars in the second round of the iPro Cup. The tie will be played over the weekend of April 1-3.
