Doncaster residents have been rocked by two separate stabbings which happened just hours apart and left two men in a serious condition.

Two men and a woman have been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder after a man in his 40s was stabbed multiple times in Marsh Gate at 9.40am yesterday.

Meanwhile, a police hunt was launched after a man in his 20s was taken to hospital with slash wounds following a ‘targeted attack’ by four people in Thorne at 6.45pm on Tuesday night.

Residents have spoken about their shock following the two unconnected incidents.

Speaking about the attack that happened near the junction with Kirton Lane and South Parade in Thorne, Sue Clyne, owner of the nearby Marina Cafe, said: “I heard a lad had been slashed with a machete.”

“I was really shocked when I found out what had happened.”

Armed police escorted victim of the Thorne attack to Doncaster Royal Infirmary, though his injuries are not thought to be life-threatening.

A woman who witnessed the scenes at the hospital, who did not want to be named said: “There were lots of police fully armed with machine guns - it was so scary.”

The four attackers reportedly had their faces covered and are believed to have been carrying various weapons.

A man in his 30s was arrested on suspicion of assault and currently remains in police custody.

The men are all described as wearing tracksuits and are believed to have left the area in a silver Volvo estate car, registration T906 HRV.

Investigating officers are keen to trace the vehicle involved and are asking for any witnesses to come forward.

Detective Sergeant Liza Hope said: “We are keen to trace the silver Volvo and I would ask anyone who knows who owns it to contact police.

“While I understand incidents like this can be alarming, we believe this was a targeted attack and we are continuing to follow up a number of lines of enquiry.

“A man in his 30s was arrested last night on suspicion of assault and currently remains in police custody.”

A matter of hours after the Thorne stabbing, officers were called to Marsh Gate, near to Hall Fencing, just before 9.40am yesterday.

A police spokesman said: “The man, in his 40s, has been taken to hospital following the incident. His injuries are not believed to be life-threatening. All three people arrested on suspicion of attempted murder currently remain in police custody.”

Shocked onlookers watched on as emergency services arrived at the scene, which is situated just metres away from HMP Marshgate.

Onlookers reported seeing the Yorkshire Air Ambulance arrive at the scene to help the injured man.
