It was a pleasure to welcome new members on their first walk with us as they joined 26 others on this gentle ramble starting in Laceby.

Situated on the outskirts of Grimsby, the village is noted for its parish church, parts of which date to the 12th century. We gathered by the church and set off across the fields to Aylesby, mainly along field headlands towards Wybers Wood.

The afternoon return leg took us through some wetland areas and alongside the River Freshney and Laceby Beck. Ornithological highlights of the day were groups of cormorants drying their wings, a perched sparrowhawk (see photos) and several buzzards circling and mewling above some woodland. Although muddy in parts, this was a straightforward level walk in the fresh air and occasional sunshine. The Route – 9.3 mile circular taking in Laceby, Aylesby Healing, Wybers Wood, and Laceby.
