Doncaster party inspired by site's mining past
Around 800 music lovers gathered on the site of a former pit this weekend to enjoy a new family-friendly festival.
The appropriately named ‘Party on the Pit’ was held on Saturday in the grounds of Dearne Valley Leisure Centre, Doncaster Road.
The idea for the event came from Dawn Bulcroft, who has her own promotions company and has helped to organise other music events.
“My dad and his dad worked in the mines and I thought it would be nice to do something where the pits used to be. Friends and family helped me sell the tickets and I had support from local shops too,but I’ve organised it all myself, she said.
“It was brilliant, I want to say thank you to everyone who came, to the bands and DJs who played, everyone who worked it and our sponsors UPVC Trade.”
The festival featured an a extensive line up of artists including local band Bang Bang Romeo, as well as Kasabian tribute band Kazabian , FAB4 who are a Beatles tribute band, and Retroject
Joel Phillips of Bang Bang Romeo said: “It’s always great for us to come back and play locally where it all began, and to see such a community vibe about an event and so many people turning out to support a great cause is heartwarming. Dawn Bulcroft can be really proud of what she has created.”
As well as the music, there were also plenty of other attractions for visitors to enjoy including a funfair, face painting, food and bars. There was also an indoor dance arena and also an open mic acoustic stage.
Dawn is already planning on organising more music events later this year. E-mail firstname.lastname@example.org.
