The Welshman tore his Achilles tendon when jumping for joy after 13-man Knights held out to beat Yorkshire Carnegie just over a week ago.

Wearing a surgical boot, he took part in the pre-match warm-up prior to Sunday’s game against Cornish Pirates at Mennaye Field and was more concerned by the club’s performance in their 34-17 defeat than his forthcoming surgery on the long trip home.

“It was a must-win game for them in relation to their play-off hopes and they were really pumped up,” said Welshman.

“They were very clinical on the day and scored five tries against our two – though we contrived to help them at times and they were also awarded a penalty try.

“We’d had a good win over Carnegie last time out and we felt the preparation had been right, but for some reason we were nowhere near our best on the day.

“As well as some defensive mistakes we made a lot of uncharacteristic handling errors which we can’t afford to do in our next home game against Jersey on Saturday week in what is a must-win game for both sides.

“Obviously the results at the weekend didn’t go our way – especially the Jersey one - but we still in control of our own destiny.

“We’ve got two home games to finish our league season and if we win them both then we’ll be in the play-offs.

“The situation is a bit tighter than I would have liked but having said that I’d have taken our current situation at the start of the season.”
