Doncaster Knights: Jarvis relishing Bristol test

Doncaster Knights will tackle the Championship leaders for the second away game in succession at Ashton Gate tomorrow night.

After pushing Yorkshire Carnegie close at Headingley last month, despite suffering injuries to several key players, third-placed Knights hope to topple new leaders Bristol.

Having beaten London Scottish last time out, Knights will not lack confidence.

“Even though we had to grind out a win, it was a good result because knowing their average points conceded in a game this season we always knew it was going to be tight.” said full-back Paul Jarvis.

“We like to play an expansive game but their kicking game made it difficult on the day and we had to show another side of our game and the forwards had to dig really deep.

“We’d have probably come out of it on the wrong side last season so it just shows how far we’ve come on as a squad.”

Now a huge crowd favourite with the Castle Park faithful, the attacking No 15 is now back to his best after suffering from a hamstring injury earlier in the season.

“I wasn’t 100 per cent fit when I first came back but we were struggling with injuries at the time," said Jarvis, whose fancy footwork wouldn't be out of place on Strictly Come Dancing.

“But I’m back to where I was before the injury and looking forward to tomorrow’s game.

“We know it’s going to be tough because Bristol are a very good side and they’ll have a couple of their World Cup players back.

“But we’ve made a good start to the season and we probably couldn't have asked for much more than to find ourselves in the top four going into the game.

“We gave them a tough game down there last season and hopefully we can go down there and have a real dig at them.

“Most teams in this league are going to be worried by our back-line which has shown what it can do in most games.

“We’ve got a really good blend of players and once we are at full-strength the only way looks to be up.”
