Doncaster junior football team in top competition win

A junior football team from Doncaster are celebrating after beating many of their local rivals to win a top regional trophy.

The Warmsworth Primary School Year 5/6 team were crowned the South Yorkshire Schools’ Football Champions after coming out on top at a tournament held at Balby Carr Primary School on Friday, December 2.

There were eight teams competing to land the title and Warmsworth remained undefeated, claiming four wins and three draws.

Kimberley Gibson, PE coordinator at the school, said: “Congratulations to the Year 5/6 team who have been crowned the South Yorkshire football champions.

“Throughout the day the team were unbeaten and have been unbeaten in all the stages of reaching these finals.

“Marcus Green and Rylee Grove were exceptional in their positions for the team and proved to be key team members.

“Adam Driver, who was the captain, received a special mention from the organising committee as one of the star players from the competition.

“We would like to thank all of the parents who attended the competition for their continued support.”

The school team made it through to the South Yorkshire finals after winning the Doncaster tournament in October.

They have now progressed to the northern area finals, which will take place in the spring term next year.

The goal scorers were Thomas Burgon, Rylee Grove, Kian Noble, Marcus Green and Travis Senior.
