Doncaster health trust lands silver award for health and fitness boost
Getting into the spirit of Rio 2016, Doncaster and Bassetlaw Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust has earned itself a '˜Silver Medal Award for Staff Wellbeing.
The health Trust, which runs Doncaster Royal Infirmary and Mexborough’s Montagu Hospital, received the accolade in July for motivating more than 6000 members of staff to get sportier and live healthier lives. Throughout the year, doctors, nurses and other staff have been hitting on-site exercise classes at Doncaster Royal Infirmary, Montagu Hospital and Bassetlaw Hospital for activities such as circuit training, badminton, zumba, legs, bums and tums, pilates and yoga.
With a full activity calendar available for staff to get active and informed, the trust has also been keenly promoting health and wellbeing through ‘Wellbeing Awareness’ sessions with key speakers discussing topics such as cancer, drugs, alcohol and mental health. The trust’s on-site restaurants have also been offering a new menu of healthier options for staff, visitors and patients, while support has been extended to those wishing to cut down on their smoking habit.
Helen Houghton, health and wellbeing lead for the trust, said: “Receiving this award is a result of a lot of hard work and dedication from many people within the trust. Increasing physical activity and having a healthy lifestyle brings many benefits such as increased self-esteem, lower stress levels and positive impact on mood.”
