A GP has warned of an 'outbreak' in the number of Doncaster patients presenting with scarlet fever.

Dr Dean Eggitt, a GP at the Oakwood Surgery in Cantley, said the infection is 'in Doncaster'.

He added: "There appears to have been a bit of an outbreak in the number of swabs going to the lab displaying the scarlet fever.

"I've also seen a rise in the amount of patients coming to see me with the symptoms of scarlet fever.

"There's no way of being able to quantify the number of Doncaster cases at this point."

The signs and symptoms of scarlet fever include a sore throat, fever, headaches, swollen glands, and a characteristic rash.

The rash is red and feels like sandpaper and the tongue may be red and bumpy. It most commonly affects children between five and fifteen years of age
