Doncaster Council presented with Team GB cycling jersey

British Cycling and Sky have marked another successful year of cycling in partnership with Doncaster Council, with the presentation of a framed GB Cycling Team jersey.

After an exciting summer that saw the Tour de France hit British roads and hills, the ever-popular Tour of Britain and more cycling competition gold at the Commonwealth Games, Doncaster Council’s cycling programme has seen hundreds of people get out on bikes and join in the amazing season of biking.

To recognise the success of the partnership, Steve Peters, British Cycling Recreation Manager for Yorkshire presented the framed jersey to Councillor Bob Johnson, as a lasting reminder of an unforgettable summer:

‘We enjoyed a summer like no other in Britain, from the Tour de France to the Tour of Britain, as well as supporting our heroes at the Commonwealth Games. It’s a great time to be inspired by cycling and we’ve really enjoyed working with Doncaster Council to get more people on more bikes than ever before,’ said Steve Peters

Councillor Bob Johnson, Cabinet Member for Culture and Leisure, said: “I was delighted to accept the jersey on behalf of the council. This has been a great year for cycling in Doncaster and we will continue to work hard to promote the sport through our “Get Doncaster Cycling” programme of activities within our communities.”In the last five years of British Cycling’s partnership with Sky, more and more people in Britain have been getting into cycling regularly – more than one million now cycle once a month. The partnership with Doncaster Council has helped contribute to this figure and there are hundreds of opportunities to continue to ride in Doncaster through Sky Ride Local guided rides, women-only Breeze rides and Britain’s biggest social cycling network, Ride Social.

‘Ultimately, we want to continue to get more people on bikes, riding recreationally and really falling in love with cycling. After such a positive summer in Doncaster, and with so many more opportunities to keep cycling with Breeze and Ride Social, we are looking forward to that continuing long into autumn and beyond.’
