Daredevil diner Alan Copeland was hot stuff when he scooped first place in a contest to devour the world’s spiciest pizza.
The support worker, 40, burned through the opposition in a red hot competition where brave hopefuls had to tuck into pizza slices topped with an eyewatering chilli sauce - registering an incredible 250,000 on the Scoville scale, which scores the heat of chilli peppers.
Alan, of Armthorpe, saw off the challenge of seven other hopefuls at the Red Tomato takeaway on Thorne Road to walk off with his height in pizza - a staggering 39 boxes after he munched his way through eight slices which increased in heat.
He said: “It was hard going - my mouth was on fire but I am glad to have won.”
The contest was the brainchild of owner Parviz Hayati who dreamed up the Daredevil pizza, available for customers to try. He said: “It really isn’t for the faint hearted.”
