A young woman who wanted a bed for the night deliberately damaged a shop door to get locked up by Doncaster police.

Shannon Tudor, of Bootham Crescent, Stainforth, entered Doncaster police station at 7.30pm and asked for a room for the night because her aunt had told her to leave home, magistrates were told.

She was refused but said she would go to the town centre and commit damage. CCTV operators saw her tear off the letter box at Torrs Ebnglish Deli in Printing Office Street, and she was arrested. Tudor admitted causing criminal damage worth £30.

Defence solicitor Ross Wagstaff told the court she had recently been discharged from St Catherine’s Hospital and her aunt was not happy about the decision and they had a fall out, but she could return to her address.

Tudor was conditionally discharged for 12 months and told to pay £30 compensation.
