A restraining order has been imposed on a Doncaster man who pestered his ex-girlfriend with texts and Facebook messages over six weeks.

Mathew Garrett, 28, of Holywell Crescent, Braithwell, admitted a charge of harassment without violence when he appeared at Doncaster Magistrates’ Court and was also ordered to complete 120 hours of unpaid work and pay £85 costs.

Prosecutor Karen Mann said the messages to Claire Wild were ‘declarations of love’ but some were ‘a bit abusive’ and he had also been to her place of work.

In a victim statement she said: “I just want all this to stop and Mathew to leave me alone. I am scared whenever I go out in case he is hanging around. This constant harasssment is making me ill.”

District Judge Jonathan Bennett said he had shown ‘some remorse’. The order prevents Garrett going to the street in Hexthorpe where she now lives for 12 months.
