Police in are appealing for information to trace a number of armed men who stole a car from a father travelling with his young daughter on Tuesday night.
Officers were called to Everingham Road, Doncaster at 7.35pm on Tuesday, September 29, following reports of loud bangs in the surrounding area.
While officers were investigating the source of the load bangs, a further report was made from a man who had his car stopped and then stolen by a group of masked men, who were seen to be carrying a firearm, on nearby Levet Road.
The five men, who were all wearing balaclavas, told the man and his four-year-old daughter to get out of their white coloured Ford Kuga 4x4 vehicle. The men then left the scene in the stolen vehicle abandoning a black coloured BMW 5 Series vehicle they had been travelling in.
Detective Sergeant Liza-Jo Hope, from the Force’s Crime Unit, said: “Fortunately the victim and his daughter were not injured in the incident, but have been left understandably shaken by what took place.
“The stolen white coloured Ford Kuga 4x4 has still not been recovered and I need the public’s help to trace that vehicle. The registration plate of the Kuga is: YP15 OYB.
“Have you seen this vehicle in the local area in the last 48 hours? Has it been sat on your road over the last day?
“We believe the loud bangs people have heard and the later theft of a car are related to the same group of men.
“At this stage we have not found any evidence of a firearm discharge but I understand this incident will have caused understandable concern to local residents.
“I would reassure people that we are treating the incident as a priority and all the necessary resources you would expect are being used to identify those responsible for this incident. Patrols in the area have been increased and will remain in place for the foreseeable future to reassure local residents.”
Anyone with information about either incident are asked to contact police via 101 and quote incident number 995 from 29 September.
