Residents in a Doncaster suburb watched on in shock, as officers apprehended and 'tasered' a man who had been involved in a high-speed police chase in the early hours of this morning.
A police spokesman told the Free Press that the police chase ended up in the Chequer Avenue area at around 3.10am this morning, when the man being pursued by police abandoned his vehicle and made away on foot.
Officers then pursued the man on foot before apprehending him in the Wainwright Road area at around 3.25am. The police helicopter was also called out to assist with the high-speed chase.
Residents in the Hyde Park area report seeing the man being tasered by officers, although this has not been confirmed by police.
An eye-witness, who wishes to remain anonymous, said: "Police were yelling for him to be tasered and there was a few people stood out the front of there houses watching as well.
"I woke to loud sirens, then there was a huge bang I even wondered was it a gun shot then I heard voices which were swearing.
"Then I heard police cars and police in foot running down our street and they caught a man and they were struggling and my friend who lives by the alley way bit further up had seen the man running out of the alley way and police try to capture him but then one of them shouted taser him and they did.
"Not long after police drove off in cars as well as a riot van."
A police spokesman confirmed the man was arrested on suspicion of drink driving in connection with the incident.
