A man was left needing a metal plate in his eye socket after a brutal unprovoked attack.

Police are appealing to anyone who may have witnessed or have information on the attack on a 38-year-old man in Thorne.

The incident happened on Sunday, November 30 - but police have only just released details.

The attack happened between 4.30am and 5.50am when the man was walking home from the Windmill Inn along Plantation Road towards the canal bridge at Canalside.

Two unknown men have approached him and also started to walk in the same direction. The man attempted to change direction as he felt uncomfortable, when one of the men punched him and knocked him unconscious to the ground.

When he came round, his wallet, phone and rucksack had all been stolen. He sustained serious damage to his eye socket as a result of the punch and now requires a metal plate inserted into the socket.

Officers would like to speak to anyone who may have information on the attack and robbery, and would urge people to call 101, or Crimestoppers on 0800 555111, quoting incident number 304 of 30 November 2014.
