A 33-year-old Doncaster man has been jailed for four and half years after pleading guilty to the rape of a 36-year-old woman.

Simon Robinson, from the Rossington area, pleaded guilty to rape at Sheffield Crown Court on Wednesday August 6.

Police received a report that a 36-year-old woman had been raped on Monday March 3, 2014. The assault, which happened in a house in Intake, had taken place overnight. Robinson was arrested and charged with rape within 48 hours of the rape being committed.

Detective Sergeant Robert Platts, who lead the investigation, said: “The sentence handed down to Robinson reflects the gravity of his crime and by pleading guilty the victim will not suffer the further ordeal of this case going to trial.

“I hope that the conclusion of proceedings has brought the victim some closure and will allow her to begin to move forward with her life.

“South Yorkshire Police remains committed to bringing sexual offenders before the courts and seeking justice for the victims of these despicable crimes.”
