Two men sentenced for robbery near Doncaster town centre after they were traced on CCTV cameras.

Stefan Cook, aged 20, of Beechfield Road, Hyde Park, and Paul Skelton, 21, of Coniston Court, Mexborough, appeared at Doncaster Crown Court and admitted robbing two 20-year-old men on Thorne Road last September.

Cook threatened the men by saying he was in possession of a knife and stole their mobile phones.

Both men were arrested by officers after they were identified by CCTV operatives who traced their movements through the town centre.

Cook was sentenced to two years in a young offenders’ institution and Skelton received a 12-month suspended sentence for his participation in the robbery.

Det Con Andrea Smith said: “Robbery is a very distressing and frightening crime that can severely affect the victim’s confidence and leave them feeling incredibly vulnerable.

“The sentence imposed reflects the nature of this crime, and I hope it sends out a clear message that South Yorkshire Police will not tolerate any type of criminal activity.”
