Man bailed after pensioner killed in crash with stolen vehicle

A man arrested after an 81-year-old driver died when his car collided with a stolen tractor on a busy Doncaster road has been bailed.

Police said they arrested a 45-year-old man on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving, theft of a motor vehicle and criminal damage.

A police spokesman said the man had now been bailed.

The 81-year-old man, who has not been named at the request of his family, died following the collision on Sunday.

The collision involved a blue Peugeot 407, driven by the 81-year-old man, a silver Fiat Punto and a white and grey tractor unit with a red trailer, which is believed to have been stolen.

The crash on Stainforth Road, Balby Dun happened at 6.50pm on Sunday.

A spokesman for South Yorkshire Police said: “Emergency services called to the scene found that the 81-year-old man in the Peugeot had sustained fatal injuries.

“A 47-year-old woman in the Fiat escaped with minor injuries.”
