Driver's anger at police after car is written off in Doncaster hit and run smash

Katie Burrows’ silver Peugeot suffered serious damage when it was in collision with a white van on Armthorpe Road last month.

The smash caused severe damage to the side and doors of her car – but police have so far been unable to trace the driver of the vehicle who fled the scene after the incident on May 7.

Katie said the collision occurred with the white Citroen Berlingo outside The Sportsman pub.

But she says South Yorkshire Police have failed to investigate the incident properly and is demanding action.

She said: "It was a hit and run. He hit me exiting the pub and was also using his mobile phone.

“The Sportsman has CCTV available, yet South Yorkshire Police have absolutely no intention of going to view this.

"I contacted the police straight away and I got told to stay put and that they would have cars out both to find him and come and speak to me.

"Three hours later I saw or heard nothing so I called them back and got told ‘nobody’s out yet and they won’t be sending anybody out as it is not an emergency.’

"How is this not an emergency?

"I feel South Yorkshire Police have been very unprofessional and ignorant and showing neglect on the accident and me, the victim.

"The police need to view that CCTV and are completely turning their backs on the situation. This is a crime and the police are not bothered - would this have mattered if someone died at the scene?”

A spokesman for South Yorkshire Police said: “Officers are aware of reports of a hit-and-run collision in Armthorpe Road, Wheatley Hills on 7 May.

“It is reported that a man driving a white van collided with a parked vehicle outside of The Sportsman Pub at about 4.40pm.

“An investigation is underway and efforts are being made to trace the driver of the van. Anyone with information is asked to call 101 quoting incident number 579 of 7th May 2021.
