Doncaster prisoner goes missing

Police are hunting a prison absconder in Doncaster - the eighth inmate to go missing this summer.

John Charles Byrne, 34, was last seen leaving HMP Hatfield on day release on Saturday, August 2, at 8.15am. He did not return at 6.30pm.

Byrne is currently serving a sentence for drugs and firearms offences.

A spokesperson for South Yorkshire Police said: “Officers believe John may have travelled to the Merseyside area as he has connections there.

“Despite extensive enquiries in South Yorkshire and neighbouring force areas, John has not been located.”

He is described as white, about 6ft tall and of medium build. He has brown/green eyes with fair shaven hair.

He is reported to speak with a North West accent.

Anyone who sees John is asked not to approach him but call 999 quoting incident number 1001 of 2 August 2014.
