Sheffield Crown Court heard on December 9 how Jun Li, aged 20, of Monks Close, Dunscroft, Doncaster, was found to have the images on two digital devices after a police raid.
Matters came to the attention of police after they executed a search warrant and seized a number of devices and two of them contained the images, according to prosecuting barrister Nicola Quinney.

"Over a period of a few months from late 2018 until the day of your arrest you had set about building-up an archive of more than 2,000 indecent images across the three category ranges.”
Ms Quinney revealed that police found 598 category A images, 548 category B images and 1,072 category C images, with category A being the most serious.
She added the majority of images were accessible and had not been deleted and the majority of the youngsters in the images were aged between four and six-years-old.

Hide AdUniversity student, Li, who has no previous convictions and is working, pleaded guilty to three counts of possessing indecent images.
Richard Sheldon, defending, confirmed Li understands the seriousness of the offences and is “terrified” of the consequences and his actions were “absolute stupidity”.
The court also heard that his mother and a long-term friend are supporting him and both provided references.
Recorder Smith recognised that Li understood that by downloading the indecent images from the internet he had formed part of the market which underlies the abuse of children.
