Two burglars have today been jailed for a total of more than five years after they stole a car that was then in collision with another vehicle.

Twenty-eight-year-old Robin Edward Hall, from Earlesmere Avenue in Balby and Peter Luke McGuire, aged 23, of Pipering Lane in Scawthorpe struck at a house on Clay Flat Lane, Rossington, at around 10.40pm on Friday, July 12 last year.

They claimed a third person entered the property, but admitted that they took the victim’s VW Polo car from the driveway.

Around five minutes later the pair were in a minor collision with a Peugeot 3008, which contained three people, on Bawtry Road.

No-one was hurt, but the offenders failed to stop and so were followed by the Peugeot driver to Intake.

They abandoned the Polo, but were located a short time later by police in a nearby alley and arrested following a short chase.

The pair initially denied being involved in the burglary, but later pleaded guilty.

During sentencing at Sheffield Crown Court, Hall was given a jail term of two years and four months, while McGuire received two years and ten months’ imprisonment for being part of a joint enterprise for the burglary.
