TWO men accused of stealing copper piping from two empty Doncaster properties are set to appear in court.

Thomas Bell, 22, and Eric Smith, 29, were arrested in one of the houses after police were tipped off by a member of the public.

Officers found the pair in Denison Road, Hexthorpe, and they are also accused of stealing piping from another property in nearby Ramsden Road.

Both Bell, of Ramsden Road, and Smith, of Blackwood Avenue, Balby, were charged with burglary and released on bail.

They are due to appear at Doncaster Magistrates Court on Tuesday morning.

PC Lisa Kelly said: “We will continue to crack down on individuals who steal metal.

“It is a priority for Doncaster and we understand the disruption it can cause to members of the public.

“We appreciate any information that is passed onto us regarding metal thefts and will always fully investigate to ensure we catch those responsible.”
