ELDERLY Dearne residents are warned to be on their guard against bogus workmen in the area.

Police are investigating reports of an odd job man targeting pensioners on streets at Bolton, then charging large amounts of cash for work undertaken.

A spokeswoman for the Bolton Crime and Safety sub-panel said: “Complaints were made about a man working in the area around Ingsfield Lane.

“He apparently offers to get jobs done such as securing tiles or clearing gutters, then presents people with a sky-high bill.”

People are advised not to invite strangers on to their property and if they are concerned about a caller, to ring police on the 101 number straight away.

There have been a high number of garden shed break-ins across the area, and residents are concerned at off-road motorbikes and quad bikes being ridden around the village. The Dearne SNT is prepared to confiscate machines that are being driven illegally or irresponsibly.
