Cannabis farms go to pot in drug raids

SEVEN people have been arrested following a £200,000 drugs swoop by police officers in Doncaster.

Over 700 cannabis plants were seized when several properties across three neighbourhoods in the borough were raided.

The haul came after residents tipped off police about the drugs factories.

Officers from the Doncaster Urban Safer Neighbourhood Team have dismantled farms in Balby, Hexthorpe and Wheatley after discovering plants said to have a street value of £190,500.

More than 300 plants were found in each of two addresses in Balby and Wheatley.

Insp Jakki Hardy, said: “There was a substantial amount of drugs found at these properties that could have ended up on the streets of Doncaster.

“We appreciate any information passed to us by the public about suspected drug activity. We will always act on information and ensure action is taken.”

Officers seized 70 plants valued at £20,000 after launching the first of the raids in Albany Road, Balby.

A second warrant was executed in Jubilee Road, Wheatley, where over 300 plants with a street value of approximately £83,000 were found. A man in his 30s was arrested, charged and remanded in custody.

Eight more plants were recovered from an address in Cedar Road, Balby, which led to a 30-year-old woman receiving a caution, before officers discovered another 316 plants worth £75,000 in Mansfield Road, Balby.

Another man, also in his 30s, was charged with the production of cannabis. He has been remanded in custody.

Police also executed a warrant at a flat in Hatfield House, St James Street, after residents complained about drug activity.

They found drugs believed to be heroin or crack cocaine and a small quantity of cannabis and tablets.

Four people were arrested for possession with intent to supply. They have been bailed pending further inquires.

A 33-year-old man, arrested for production of cannabis, has been released on bail after 13 plants were found at an address in Lindum Street, Hexthorpe.

The final raid, in Durham Road, Wheatley, unearthed 12 cannabis plants valued at approximately £3,600.
