Coventry City v Doncaster Rovers friendly cancelled

Doncaster Rovers' final pre-season friendly against Coventry City on Friday has been cancelled due to the club's mounting injury problems.

Luke McCullough joined the casualty list when he limped out of Tuesday night’s 2-1 win at York City.

Boss Darren Ferguson had hoped that centre back Joe Wright would return against the Sky Blues but Rovers have now taken the decision not to risk any further injuries.

Mathieu Baudry, Gary McSheffrey and Craig Alcock will definitely miss the start of the season.

McCullough, Wright, Harry Middleton, Paul Keegan and youngster Joey McCormick are also being nursed back to fitness.

Rovers said in a statement: “In light of the injury situation that currently surrounds the club; we have made the proposal to Coventry City to postpone Friday nights friendly at Nuneaton Town.

“Following another injury sustained to a key member of the squad last night in Luke McCullough, the Sky Blues – and their manager Tony Mowbray – fully understand our need to nurture our squad through to the start of the season and have duly accepted our request.

“This is again not a decision that is taken lightly by the club but only highlights the current situation and our desire to maintain as healthy a squad as possible when the season kicks off in full on August 6th away at Accrington Stanley.
