YOUNGSTERS from schools across Doncaster helped transform a borough church with their art.

Pupils’ paintings were displayed inside the medieval stone landmark of St Peter’s Church in Conisbrough, for an event called Art in the Aisles.

Among those taking part were youngsters from nearby Sir Thomas Wharton College in Edlington, which put forward work by pupils Drew Findlay, Kieran Blakemore, Kate Bullock, Kim Hartley, Adele Todd, Lyle Copley, Chris Norton, Natalie Willmot, Natasha Cougill. Year 10 pupil Natasha was among the prize winners, for her study of a sunflower.

A school spokesman said the exhibition was organised to promote the arts and to make the local communities aware of the talent on their doorstep.

Andrew Farmer, artist in residence at Sir Thomas Wharton, said: “This was a great opportunity for students to get a taste of the real world in terms of exhibiting and to learn the necessary skills to do so.

“The students are extremely talented and really do deserve recognition.”
