The summer holidays are now in full swing, but parents running out of fun ideas to fill the weeks ahead needn’t worry as Potteric Carr Nature Reserve’s summer event programme still has plenty more exciting sessions to come.

Kids can choose from pond dipping and nature-inspired craft sessions, or for those budding wildlife-enthusiasts a butterfly expedition might be more up their street. For the very adventurous there is even a session teaching woodland survival skills this Friday!

Kat Woolley, Education Officer for Yorkshire Wildlife Trust said: “We all remember our summer holidays as weeks of fun, running outdoors and making the most of our freedom from lessons! However for a parent, these weeks of freedom can be a little daunting as the long days stretch ahead. So at Potteric Carr we are providing a helping hand, by offering a jam-packed events programme throughout the holidays, with several sessions running every week.

“There are events to suit every child, whether they like getting arty and creative or peering at creepy crawlies and working out how and where they live. The events are designed to be active and fun for all the family.”

All events cost £5 per child (or £3 if a member of Yorkshire Wildlife Trust) and children must be accompanied by an adult. Places on these fantastic events are limited so booking is essential and can be secured by calling 01904 659570.

Children have already been exploring Yorkshire’s wildlife at the site this summer, with successful marine-themed rockpooling, as well as pond dipping and minibeasting events already having taken place on the nature reserve. A number of children had such a wonderful time that it was difficult to tear them away from the great wilderness that there is to explore at Potteric Carr.

Potteric Carr Nature Reserve is an excellent place to explore whatever your age, with shaded woodlands and lakes bursting with life amongst the many habitats waiting to be discovered. The summer events programme not only helps entertain children during their holidays but also teaches them more about the wildlife found right on their doorstep. The nature reserve is just on the outskirts of Doncaster and can be easily reached from the M18. Parking is free and there is an excellent tearoom on site, offering lunches and snacks for the hungry explorer. The site is open 7 days a week, from 9am to 5pm and explorer packs are available from reception for families wanting to go on an adventure around the nature reserve, but not attend an event.
