DETERMINED women who completed Barnsley Hospice’s rescheduled charity walk in July are being asked to get their sponsor money in.
The sixth annual Midnight Walk took place at Stairfoot, near Wombwell, on July 21, almost a month after the original planned event had to be postponed at the last minute because of appalling weather.
Most of the 1,200 women who had signed up for the original walk were able to take part on the night and organisers would like them to come forward with their sponsorship money as soon as possible.
Organiser Helen Macintosh said: “We appreciate the efforts women have made to help us make it a success despite the initial setback.
“The weather was perfect for the event in the end, especially as it was on a Hawaiian theme and women were dressed up in grass skirts.
“Sponsor money is coming in but, given the delay, we’d like to ask everyone to send in what they’ve raised as soon as possible now so we can announce our grand total.”
It is hoped that proceeds can top the £100,000 raised by the event last year. All proceeds will go to Barnsley Hospice, which cares for anyone in the borough who has a life-threatening illness.
