If you have ever thought about becoming a market trader but didn’t want to commit to the cost of a stall at first, here is the perfect solution for you.
The council is launching a first month’s free trading for any new traders at its markets across North Lincolnshire.
No commitment is necessary for the free month, however if you decide to stay on past the month the stall rental will start. You can choose from Scunthorpe, Ashby or Brigg Markets.
There are many benefits to becoming a market trader, it allows you to be flexible and take your trade to customers without being tied into a lease for a new shop. You could start by trading just one day a week and build it into a whole new career.
To become a successful market trader you’ll need to have a good idea and be willing to work hard with early starts and in all weathers. But the rewards are many - fellow market traders are a friendly, there’s a good community spirit and you’ll get to know your customers, developing your products and range to meet their needs.
Becoming a market trader is a low-risk, low cost way to turn your business dream into reality. Some of the country’s most successful high street names started out on a market stall – Morrison’s, Marks and Spencer and Dunelm Mill to name a few!
Councillor John Briggs, cabinet member for Assets, Culture and Housing, said: “We are always on the lookout for new market traders, however we realise that it can be a big commitment for people. This offer will give people that bit of leeway to try out having a market stall before they make any commitment.
“Our markets in North Lincolnshire are fantastic; they have a real variety of produce on offer. If you would like to set up your own business, then why not give market trading a go? You can become part of the wonderful market family across North Lincolnshire.”
For existing traders, there is also a brilliant offer. They can take an extra stall free for up to three months. This will give them the chance to see if expanding their current business will work or try their hand at something else without the extra rental commitment.
