Cash boost for scheme to help ex-offenders back into employment in Isle of Axholme
A unique project to help ex-offenders back into employment in the region has received a cash boost of £46, 000.
The Empower Project, run by the Crosby Employment Bureau, received the money from the SSE North Lincolnshire Sustainable Development Fund and will cover the wider Scunthorpe area.
The SDF is provided as part of a community benefit programme from SSE’s Keadby Wind Farm and offers a funding pot of £170, 000 per year for the 25-year lifetime of the energy generating plant. Project leaders will use the money to expand their service to offer one-to-one support and training to help ex-offenders to earn a living.
Hayley Cullen, who works for the project, said: “Securing the grant from the SDF has enabled us to help local people to gain valuable skills move into employment and change their lives, the feedback from service users has been excellent and we look forward to supporting others.”
Axholme North councillor John Briggs, chair of the SDF, said: “The Empower Project is a brilliant idea that will help change peoples’ lives for the better, which is why the funding was awarded.”
Applications for this year’s fund are now open and ‘expression of interest’ forms must be submitted by April 11. For details ring 01724 297668.
