KAREN Hopkins of Wroot recently won the Account Manager of the Year award at her employer’s – Sodexo, a leading provider of on-site service solutions – annual Star Awards for employees.
Karen has spent her entire career with Sodexo and joined straight out of North Lindsey Technical college as a chef in Doncaster and progressed to chef manager, catering manager and then general manager at various locations in the UK, before moving to work for two international banking groups.
Now, as an account manager for one of the world’s leading foodservices and facilities management companies, Karen clocks up to 15, 000 miles a year behind the wheel, travelling to and from the sites she is responsible for in the north of the UK.
Karen said: “I really enjoy the job because of the people I meet and work with and the diversity of my role.
“I have an excellent team of business managers and general service managers and it has been very much a team effort over the years.”
Karen enjoys the diversity of the role too. She looks after the facilities management in a tea factory, Europe’s largest deodorant factory in Leeds, two soap powder and detergent factories, a European IT centre in Chester and laboratories in the North West.
“One day I can be working in the highly restricted areas of the IT centre or the labs, and another I am wearing a hard hat and high visibility jacket sorting something with the production cleaners.”
