Superstore plans to go on public display

PLANS to convert a former carpet warehouse into a supermarket go on public display this month.

Kier Property wants to transform the former United Carpets premises on Station Road, Mexborough, into a supermarket with a petrol station.

Bosses believe the scheme could create 250 jobs.

The plans will form the centre of an exhibition at Mexborough Resource Centre on Thursday, from 11am until 7pm.

The developers will be at the event to discuss the scheme with the public.

Tony Gilman, director of Kier Property, said: “We think this is an exciting development for Mexborough.

“We have put a lot of time and effort into the plans so far and we would welcome as much feedback as possible at the exhibition.

“Our proposals will ensure that the town remains a lively and vibrant place to live and work.

“The council wants to see Mexborough thrive - and so do we.”
