Lisa Pogson has been named the first-ever female president elect for the Barnsley and Rotherham Chamber of Commerce.

Lisa, currently vice president of the chamber, was voted in unanimously at the chamber’s AGM and she is set to take over from current president Paul Jagger MBE in autumn next year to serve a two year term.

Julie Kenny CBE was president of the Rotherham Chamber in the early 1990s and Tracey Lally served at Barnsley Chamber president in the 2000s, but Lisa is the first woman president of the joint chamber, which merged in 2008.

She is a founding member of the Women in Business group and is resources director at Airmaster, a heating and air conditioning company based in Rotherham.

Having left school at 16 for a youth training scheme with a handful of GCSEs, she returned to education later in life and gained a masters of science degree in management resources at age 30.

She is described by the chamber as a champion of improving educational attainment and works tirelessly to support schools through her work with projects like BizKids and as a trustee of literacy charity Grimm & Co.

She said: “Every study into literacy shows it has a massive effect on people’s life chances.

“It is vital that children enjoy reading.”

Andrew Denniff, chief executive of the chamber, said Lisa is “held in high regard” by members.
