help is at hand for Doncaster people wishing to gain important skills for the workplace.
Charity Barnado’s is offering apprenticeship training for anybody in employment wishing to further enhance their skills.
Apprenticeship courses covered include business administration, customer service and professional cookery.
Three qualified skills trainers are offering their services under the charity, which is a City and Guilds training provider.
Under the apprenticeship programme they offer workers the opportunity to continue working while gaining new skills for development.
Jenny North, a skills trainer with the project, said Barnardo’s was looking to develop links in the Doncaster area.
“We are engaging with employers at the moment,” she said.
“We are making links all the time and we always want more. We have been placing quite a lot of emphasis on South Yorkshire. Doncaster is a focal point for us.”
The trainers offer their services in the workplace which Jenny says has its advantages.
Jenny added: “It saves travel expenses and people don’t have to go to a college.
“I just encourage people to find out more. If they just want a bit of advice and guidance we can give that as well.”
The scheme is also a plus for young people.
Jenny said following the scrapping of the education maintenance allowance young workers can “earn while they learn”.
