One of Britain’s fastest growing retailers is creating dozens of new jobs by opening a second store in Doncaster.

Shopfitters have moved in to convert the former Comet premises in York Road into a B and M Bargains store.

The chain already has a smaller unit on the Leger Retail Centre in Thorne Road, Wheatley Hills.

A spokesman confirmed the new 14,000sq ft store on the Danum Retail Park, which will create another 60 jobs when it opens on Thursday, May 1, will stock a wide variety of branded and own label products, as well as an extensive non-food section including toys, soft furnishings, home and gardening ranges.

Glen Spray, manager of the new B and M Doncaster Danum store, said: “We’re really proud to be opening our second store in Doncaster, creating up to 60 jobs and playing our part in the local community.”

Mr Spray says he wants a ‘local hero’ to cut the ribbon on the first day of trading and he is asking Doncaster Free Press readers to nominate suitable candidates.

‘Heroes’ can be nominated by friends, family or work colleagues and could be someone who makes life better for people in the area, works hard for a particular cause or is renowned for their charity work.

Mr Spray added: “We wanted a true VIP to officially open our new store and what better way than to ask customers to nominate those who make a real difference to people’s lives in and around Doncaster.”

Nominations should be submitted by Friday, April 18, and can be e-mailed to or posted to Doncaster Danum Local Hero Search, B&M Retail, Dakota Drive, Estuary Commerce Park, Speke, Liverpool, L24 8RJ.
