brick by brick hundreds of miners are being remembered as part of a permanent memorial.
The names of miners who worked at Edlington pit are to be etched on bricks that will be used as part of a memorial wall.
Former union officials at the Yorkshire Main Colliery came up with the scheme to create a lasting legacy to those who worked, and in some cases lost their lives at the pit.
Individuals are being invited to purchase a commemorative brick for £30 in order to fund the project.
Former NUM official Frank Arrowsmith, chairman of the Yorkshire Main Trust, said: “We are asking ex-miners and their families to purchase a memorial brick and profits will also go to the garden of remembrance we are planning.”
Already 250 bricks have been sold but there is room for around 200 more bricks. To find out more visit http://yorkshiremaincommemorativetrust.webs.com/
