Bringing Indian massage to the Isle
A Belton woman is hoping to bring a bit of Indian relaxation to people of the Isle after training to be a masseuse.
Sara Mitchell, aged 53, gives clients specialist Ayurvedic massages in her home, Belshaw Cottage, Belshaw Lane, Belton, after completing her training in India.
She said: “I go regularly to India, but last time came back with oils and herbal medications and have set up as a practitioner in Belton.
“I decided to become a practitioner because I loved it when I was given the massage by a guy called Sureshkumar Maniyanpillai several times while I was there.
“I tried lots of Ayurvedic massages, but his was the best, so when I was on a yoga holiday with my friends I had the idea to try and train and then work with him afterwards to practise.
“I trained at Kerala Aruyvedic Health Centre with a guy called Sarun Sasidharan for 21 hours over the space of a week. Then, I went to the Ayuvedic Hospital in India, where Suresh works to practise with him on his patients.
“Both Sarun and Suresh are very supportive of me here in Belton, I get my oil and medication supplies from them.”
Ayurvedic Massage is intended to provide a relaxing and healing experience, and can only be carried out by trained therapists.
Sara, who also works as a registered nurse and yoga teacher, added: “This massage is quite specialist. I have lots of oils and medications and I can treat sports and stress injuries, along with health issues such as anxiety stress and depression.
“My aim is to create a sanctuary at my lovely country cottage for stressed out people to come and rejuvenate with yoga and massage.
“I have many clients already, who I fit in between work. I am flexible with providing evening and weekend treatments. So far, my clients all seem to be very happy with the experience and all intend to return. I would encourage people to try it.”
Sara is currently offering a half price deal to all her clients until April 20. A 60 minute full body massage, usually £50, is now £25 and a 30 minute back massage, usually £25, is now only £12.50.
