Regular bin collections re-start in Rotherham next week while crews work tomorrow, Saturday, January 3, to continue to clear the back-log.

Week One of the normal collection schedule starts on Monday, January 5, while Week Two begins on Monday, January 12. Householders are advised to check their waste calendars for their collection day or alternatively check the waste collection website at –

While the majority of properties across the borough have received a black bin collection during this week - from Saturday, December 27, to Saturday, January 3 - there are still pockets of streets that were missed by Rotherham Borough Council’s waste crews because of the problem with ice.

For those streets that have not had a scheduled black bin collection during the last week the authority will be using extra resources from next Monday, January 5.

The following areas still waiting for a collection will be picked-up as follows:

Monday, January 5:

Some streets in the backlog in Wath, West Melton, Swinton, Parkgate, Manvers, Rawmarsh, Parkgate, Brampton and Kilnhurst may receive a collection as part of Week One Collection Schedules. Please refer to your calendar or the waste collection website at

Tuesday, January 6, Wednesday, January 7, and Thursday, January 8:

As above plus some streets in backlog including Wentworth, may receive a collection as part of Week One Collection Schedules.

Refer to the calendar or the waste collection website at

Resources will continue to be deployed until all the streets in backlog from Saturday, December 27, have received a collection.

Friday, January 9, 2015:

Blue Box Collections

Regular blue box / blue bag schedules will re-commence from next week as per the usual schedule:

Week One – Starts from Monday, January 5.

Week Two – Starts from Monday, January 12.

For streets that did not receive a recycling collection during the period Saturday, December 27, to January 3, 2015, your blue box and blue bag will be collected on your next scheduled collection. Refer to the calendar or the waste collection website at

Coun. Mahroof Hussain, Rotherham Borough Council’s Cabinet Member for the Environment, apologised for the disruption but said bin crews were now well on their way to catching-up with missing collections.

He added: “Several days of ice at a time when regular collections were rescheduled for the holidays, has resulted in collections being two days behind. Although many people have had their bin emptied there are some streets, scattered in pockets right across the Borough, who have not. We are catching up and the normal collection schedule will begin on Monday. In addition, up to seven extra crews are being used next week to mop-up those black bins that were not collected at all last week.”
