The family has donated more than £600 to the stroke unit at Scunthorpe General Hospital in memory of beloved father and husband, Geoff Thompson.

After receiving initial treatment for his condition after having a stroke, Geoff was taken by ambulance straight from Diana, Princess of Wales Hospital in Grimsby, to Scunthorpe hospital.

He was transferred on January 22, where he sadly passed away eight days later.

After his death Geoff’s family asked for donations, which they collected at his funeral and asked that they be donated to the stroke unit at Scunthorpe Hospital after being impressed by the compassion and care shown by the nurses and other staff during Geoff’s stay.

Geoff’s grateful daughter, Debbie Hayward, said about her father’s stay in Scunthorpe general Hospital: “My father received excellent care from all the nursing staff at the hospital. That is why we decided as a family that we wanted to donate to the stroke ward where my father was treated, so that they can continue their great work.”

The money that is raised will go towards the stroke unit funding zone, which is managed by the hospital trust’s official charity, which is the Health Tree Foundation and will be used to benefit stroke patients in the hospital.

Deputy ward manager at the hospital, Lynne Shackleton, said: “We are ever so grateful for the family’s donation to the stroke unit. Contributions such as this great donation enable us to buy equipment, such as specialist chairs and cushions that enhance patient comfort on the ward.”

Patients, staff and the local community can now influence where charitable funds are spent by submitting a wish to The Health Tree Foundation. If you would like to do so, please go to website.
