Dearne brewery Acorn has been to @Barcelona to promote its brew after recent success in selling to Italy.

Acorn, based in Wombwell, is going global with a growth strategy to gain more export sales after its first shipping woorth thousands of pounds to Italy four months ago.

Representatives were at UKTI’s Great British Speciality Beer and Food Exhibition with several of its bottled beers to display to Spanish buyers.

Michael Dugher, the Member of Parliament for Barnsley East, welcomed the news that Acorn Brewery is expanding its operation overseas.

The Barnsley East MP has Wombwell within his constituency and along with Wentworth and Dearne MP John Healey, has previously supported Acorn Brewery by arranging for their famous Barnsley Bitter to be served as the guest ale in the Strangers’ bar in the House of Commons.

Mr Dugher said: “Acorn Brewery is a fantastic local business and I am very pleased that their products have been showcased in Spain, following their success in Italy.

“I would like to take this opportunity to congratulate Acorn Brewery.”

Repeat orders from their Italian buyer have already been made with the brewery that has an annual turnover of around £1.2m.

Its UK orders have shown no slacking either, with beers delivered direct to 400-plus bars and pubs along with other outlets such as farm shops and other specialised businesses.

Acorn, that has been in existence for 12 years, always based in Wombwell, has ongoing contracts with five major supermarkets, and intends to brew up to 45,000 pints of real ale per week in the coming year.
