DONCASTER’S university for youngsters aged up to 14 has scooped a prestigious national award.
The Children’s University, based at Doncaster College, was awarded the ‘Everyday Impact - New Enterprises Award’ for its outstanding work in raising aspirations and providing high quality afterschool activities for children.
The national award from the charity Directory of Social Change highlights organisations that have committed to making a positive impact in the community.
The Children’s University provides seven to 14-year-olds with learning opportunities outside of normal school hours.
Linda Metcalfe, from the Children’s University, was part of a team that was instrumental in putting a successful nomination together.
She said: “The Children’s University has an everyday impact across the community and Doncaster College has a large stake in that.
“There were five hundred entries from across the country so it was a very good award to win.”
Doncaster College is part of the Children’s University programme and has a learning area at its Waterfront Campus. It provides a number of clubs for children including a ‘Top Gear’ challenge and pottery club.
