An appeal has gone out to find a new charity fundraiser to lead Doncaster’s annual Poppy Appeal.

Last year, more than £25,000 was raised for the campaign in the town centre area - but the Royal British Legion is now looking for a co-ordinator to take up the reins of the campaign.

Current leader Angela Shepherd has given up a lot of her time and commitment over the last few years and has been Poppy Appeal organiser for the Central Doncaster area.

A spokesman for the Royal British Legion said: “Angela has done an astounding job in raising over £25,000 for the last three years. The Poppy Appeal and Royal British Legion would like to take this opportunity to thank Angela for her tremendous efforts.

The charity is now seeking a new organiser as Angela is unable to continue looking after the area.

Applicants don’t need to be a member of the local Royal British Legion branch but do need to be enthusiastic and have good organisation skills to take on the challenging but rewarding role.

The organiser can be one or a small group of people and will be responsible for ordering stock, delivering collection tins to local businesses and schools as well as some paperwork and banking funds.
