Appeal boost for All Saints

A COMMUNITY continues to rally around its church as it edges nearer to a £33,000 roof appeal target.

All Saints Church in Misterton has been hit eight times in as many years by lead thieves, leaving it facing possible closure because of the massive repair bill.

But voluteers have refused to be beaten by the criminals and have galvanised the village, organising a number of events to boost the appeal’s ‘fighting fund’.

The total now stands at £10,904 following the latest events which includes a quiz night at Misterton’s Red Hart pub and a bingo night.

Another £55 was raised when a clothes party and raffle was organised by Penny Elsgood and her daughters Kayleigh, Megan and Sami-Jo who teamed up with Labels for Less of Epworth.

And last Saturday saw a car wash held at Misterton Fire Station. Crews split all donations between the roof appeal and the Firefighters Charity.

Alongside the ongoing roof appeal, All Saints has recently had a new advanced alarm system installed. Church volunteer Jane Moffett said: “The alarm alerts parish members and a central control station if activated and, unlike a lot of alarm systems, it automatically resets itself after activation, meaning the church will never be without protection.”

There are still tickets available for the Songs from the Shows concert on Saturday, featuring West End Star Sally Hartley.

The event will be held at the church with entry costing £8 for adults and £5 for concessions. Doors open at 7pm and the show starts at 7.30pm.

A Christmas shopping night featuring a hamper draw will also be held next Wednesday, November 30, at Grove House Stables Equestrian Centre, Grovewood Road, Misterton. The event runs from 3.30pm to 8pm.

Both events are in aid of the roof appeal, for more information or to book concert tickets contact Jane on 01427 891555 or 07798 747234.
