The final result was close, with only 4 marks separating the winners, Haxey, from the other teams. The main prize was the opportunity to represent Gainsborough District Scouts in the County Quiz held at Horncastle on Sunday 27th May.

Once again, the Haxey team of Meredith Jackson, James Thomas, James Atkinson and William Atkinson rose to the occasion and after a neck and neck contest with nearest rivals, Keeton Beavers, they came out on top. The winning margin was a single point, which was decided on the last question of the contest.

Meredith was the youngest member of the team, only joining Beavers a couple of weeks before the Gainsborough round of the contest. She brought along Ted Cuddles as the team’s mascot and her older brother, Harry, helped to prepare her by asking her questions during the car journey to Horncastle.

Many of the questions were challenging for the parents, who were glad that they were not in the hot seat. Questions ranged from how many planets are in the solar system to naming the train in the TV programme Midnight Garden.
