All the town will have say on new store proposals

Councillors have vowed to make sure everyone has their say on plans for a supermarket development in Epworth.

Tillbridge Developments wants to build the store on land near the Holmes and Garden Centre which it says could create 200 jobs. The firm is also proposing to build 39 retirement apartments and a doctor’s surgery.

However, many residents are opposed to the plans saying such a development was not needed in the town.

At the latest meeting of Epworth Town Council councillors said they would make sure residents had the chance to voice concerns on the issue.

This comes after members heard that some residents felt too intimidated to speak up at a public meeting on the proposals.

Coun Bob Fish said: “If we are to make a decision on behalf of the populous, we need to hear from them all.”

Councillors plan to produce a special edition of their newsletter, the Epworth Echo, offering residents the opportunity to comment.

However, the meeting heard this will only be done once Tillbridge Developments submit a formal planning application.

Coun Richard Hall added: “We are monitoring the situation.”
