There’s loads going on in our region this weekend - here’s 10 things you can do to have a great time over the next several days.


Fancy watching some of Doncaster’s emerging talent on the music scene? Then head to Cask Corner for the open mic night on Wednesday, January 13.

The regular event is a great chance for budding musicians to try out new material and for the audience to potentially catch a glimpse of the next musical sensation before they make it big.


Putting on your dancing shoes and enjoy a merry jig at a tea dance in the grand setting of the Mansion House in Doncaster.

Enjoy a programme of popular sequence and ballroom dancing to live music provided by Philip Randles. The next session will be held on Tuesday, January 12, between 2pm and 4pm.

It costs £3.50 per person.

3. ART

Football fans are in for a treat as Doncaster Museum and Art Gallery is launching an exhibition on the history of Doncaster Rovers.

Launched on Saturday, January 9, the display will feature a range of paintings depicting players and staff from past and present.


Why not start your New Year with a health kick and join in with the Doncaster Parkrun. The 5km course around Sandall Park in Wheatley Hills starts every Saturday at 9am.

5. ART

Discover the region’s mining heritage at the ‘Pit Profiles: Re-profiled’ exhibition at Cusworth Hall in Doncaster. The exhibition brings together original portraits depicting the region’s former pit communities by artist H. Andrew Freeth and contemporary photographer Anton Want.


Rock band The Lost Days will be playing their first gig of the year at the Flying Scotsman Tap on Friday, January 8, from 9pm.


Catch some live music at The Ukrainian Centre in Doncaster on Monday, January 11, from 8pm.


The Doncaster Wheelers cycling club is inviting members of the public to saddle up and join them for a long distance ride.

They will be meeting in School Lane, Auckley, on Saturday, January 9, at 9.30am. They are expected to return by 3pm.
